Having cold feet about being with my fiance for 2 weeks alone in IL where he is stationed and I know noone!?

Friday, April 16th, 2010

So, I am faced with a couple of issues this week. My fiance is stationed in Scott AFB in southern illinois. We have been together for 4 years, and recently got engaged. I always have feltso comfortable with him during his visits. However, everytime I saw him, he vistied NYC (where we are from) and it was in my comfort zone. This friday, I am leaving to visit him in an unfamiliar place, with unfamiliar people, and I am a little FRIGHTENED! In addition, I have also been wondering if anyone else felt like they were scared to be with the one they love day and night…like I am afraid to be uncomfortable….MY cold feet are making me not want to go. But I love him, and if we marry I have to move there and deal, is it bad to be this scared. Is it normal???
TO First three below:
Thank you for your prompt feedback, but I have to say there is a BIG misunderstanding. I am fine with my fiance, we are normally comfortable…I am just scared about going to be with him in a place where he has already established friendships/relationships, and I will have no one.I am leaving othere ppl whom I love, to be with him, and it does not seem like a normaltransition. I am sure i might be overreacting a bit, but I also doubt its CAKE like you all are making it seem.I want to know if anyone who gave suggestion, has had to leave their loved ones to a NEW place with NEW people to be with the ONE, who already knew thae places and people. If you have never been trhough this, then I will most likely consider your answers VOID.Nice Try Though. ALL ACTUAL EXPERIENCES WELCOME!

I’m not sure I know why your so frightened! It’s only a visit. It’s like your already wanting to bring NEGATIVITY to your life and it’s just a VISIT!!! YOu may love it meet nice people and LOVE it! Life is about experiences! Live them, enjoy them. Stop being a drama queen before you start ruining things that aren’t ruined!!!

scott afb illinois facts?

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

my fiance just got his 1st duty station to scott afb in illinois and i was wondering if anyone had any information or facts to help me out. i don’t know anything about that area except that it’s close to st. louis. any help is appreciated. thanks!
ya i know that. i’ve been trying to find information on it.. but i was hoping to get some other information about the areas.. what there is to do.. weather.. ect.

Scott AFB is surrounded by some pretty decent towns. If you have a family, I would suggest moving to O’fallon as they generally have a better school district than the surrounding towns.

The base and surrounding area is typically fields, foods, with some towns (reasonably sizable). So if you like outdoor activities, it is a pretty nice place, although not as memorable as Washington State or Colorado. Some cities, like Belleville, have a nifty downtown area as well as an annual Chili cook off. Another popular activity in that area is bowling. There are a lot of bowling alleys.

If that isn’t your thing, you could always go to St. Louis. They have a lot of free activities, such as the St Louis Zoo, the Science Center, activities in Forest Park, a lot of free concerts. The universities there sometimes do events too. There are also some other cool things in St. Louis, like the Magic House (A big play ground for people of all ages), the Wolf Sanctuary (Only one in the 48 states, I think), the butterfly house, and lots more.

As for the base itself, it isn’t the biggest base in the world, but it has all of the necessities. The people that work there tend to be smarter than average because it deals with more technical jobs, generally.

For food, there are a lot of restaurants in the general area. Some ma and pop, others big chain, but there are all varieties. For instance, Dragonfly secrets in O’Fallon is a great soup/gourmet sandwich place as is Shiloh Valley Grill. Thips Thai cousine is satisfying. But this is a whole other category.

For the Weather, it experiences extremes. Think between -20F to 110F depending (although all weather seems to be changing these days). Rain, hail, snow, sunlight, fog, tornadoes, potential for earthquakes and floods, or beautiful spring days.

There are a lot of young people in that general area, especially under 16, so numerous places offer summer camps of every type.

If you had specific questions, I could answer those most likely.

Air force in jan, is god trying to tell me something.?

Monday, April 12th, 2010

Wow, thats that.

well, i leave for lackland BMT in january, im going to be in finance management. im from PA.

now to the point. my favorite football team is the rams.
but anyways im tired so ill make this quick, i think i need to be stationed at scott airforce base in illinois.

how hard would it be if i made it dream sheet numero uno.

now, why i like rams, 20 minutes from ST.L and i met this girl at a banquet, for football year ago and we have been talking and getting close well she recently moved out of the blue, i was devestated. she txted me later that night.

yesterday saying she moved by bellevill.

yeah which is outside the scott air force base…

please tell me what to do?
kkk i was in a rush to type this.

i met her, didnt want to leave her felt bad, but regadless wanted to go to scott af base, then bam out of no where she moves close to it. its midnight. alright thanks.

Well, I’m not sure what the Almighty is trying to tell you. Of course, it could just be a coincidence, too! Scott would be a decent assignment, though. Not the best but pretty good.

On the other hand, you can request the AF assign you anywhere you would like. I consistently volunteered for Thailand and Taiwan but never got close to either one. I could have gone to Korea, Japan or Okinawa but I was not much interested in those.

I volunteered for the UK and got it but never made it to Italy or Germany. I did get to spend some time on a seaside resort (LOL)called the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during a war. I volunteered for that one too! I tried to get assigned to Texas throughout my career but never made it. I volunteered for California and was never able to get another stateside assignment.

The point? You get some say in yor assignment but, AF needs come first.

My advice? Write lots of letters, visit her on leave and make nice to her. When assignment time comes around ask yourself a question, "Am I in a lifetime committed relationship? When will I ever get another chance to go see part of this big, beautiful world?" Then, volunteer for anywhere in the world you would like to see, including Scott.

The nice thing about the AF is that you mostly get nice assignments. The other srvices cannot say that.

i just got terminated wrongfully. can i get unemployement?

Saturday, April 10th, 2010

hello every1, i’m very new to this.

i’m a hairstylist that’s been giving free haircuts to family and friends because my old boss said i could. my new assistant manager suspended me, then fired upon my return w/o warnings after she’d seen that i didn’t charged them. they made me sign a write-up before i left stating that i violated rules. i’ve been working for about 2 years w/ the co. am thinking that it was so wrong. can anyone please tell me what my options are? never applied for unemployement bfor. i live in illinois by the way.

thanx

scott

No matter if you quit or get fired, you must qualify for UN. Every state has their guidelines, but suffice it to say they are all pretty much the same.
A few questions for you…
Were you fired before or AFTER the write up? Regardless of the write up, were you EVER INFORMED PERSONALLY, BY A POSTING ON THE BULLITIN BOARD, OR ANY OTHER WAY that free haircuts were no longer allowed?
Some states have what is called ‘right to work" laws, Essentially it means that while you, the employee can leave anytime you choose, equally the employer can fire you anytime they choose. In these states, also known as "at will", all they have to say is, "your services are no longer needed", regardless of ANY REASON YOU MAY THINK, OR EVEN WHAT THEY MAY SAY TO YOU… I bring this to your attention, because, if you do file for UN and they dispute it, they will be required to submit their reasons for your termination. Given that your state is an at will, all they have to say is, "no longer needed". This is good for you, for then you probably will get UN. However, if they do not want to give you UN they will most likely say that your violations of company SOP, or rules that ANY OTHER SIMILAR BUSINESS MAY FOLLOW WAS UNACCEPTABLE. In which case, you would then be denied UN but will be given an opportunity to appeal. If you choose to appeal, you will be in either arbitration, or in front of claims officers and judges that will hear both sides and then make a determination.
For whatever it is worth… Most people who are fired, unless for "gross misconduct" get UN..
Good luck…

I used an entire bag of Scotts step2 fertilizer pellets for 5,000 sq feet on 300 sq feet of lawn.?

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

I am in illinois and it is late May. I used an old, rusty spreader and it didn’t work correctly. I accidentally applied the bag, which is intended for 5,000 sq feet of lawn, on about 300 sq feet of lawn. Does anyone know if this will kill the grass, or if there is anything that I can do at this point to remedy the mistake? I am afraid that my lawn will die. Any pointers would be great!

Mowing the lawn with a bagger may suck up some of the pellets.

Otherwise, nothing can be done, but water, water, water.

If the grass survives, you will be mowing, mowing, mowing.

Any info about these four Air Force bases?

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

Hey! My fiance is in tech school right now but will be picking his bases soon. I will moving with him…but i was looking for more detailed/personal information about these bases…
1- SHAW, AFB in SC
2- SCOTT, AFB in illinois
3- David-Monthan, AFB in Arizona
4- Hicham, AFB in Hawaii.

I found some stuff but not alot of reviews about actually living there. Im looking for housing, the towns, job’s for spouses, safety or anything that you can offer including any pictures. THANK YOU!

1. Don’t know much about it, but I doubt it is too bad.
2. Right near St. Louis, but closest to the bad side of St Louis (east side). The base is actually around 15 min on the other side of the river from St Louis. I never liked that area because they get a lot of weather, including the ice storms in winter and the occasional tornado.
3. You talk about HOT… this place is it. It is nice however. The area has a lot of hiking and activities. It can be dangerous in some neighborhoods because of it’s proximity to Mexico.
4. It is in a really beautiful environment… but expensive to live there with the high cost of living.

All in all, being in the AF is always going to be ten times better than being in the other services. The quality of life can’t be beat. Your fiance won’t be deploying as often and not nearly as long as his counterparts in the other services do.

Good luck, and welcome to the AF family.

Can you make a long distance relationship work or is it not a good idea?

Sunday, April 4th, 2010

Ok so there is this guy i met over playing a game his name is scott we have talked for the past week i think and since we both havent been to school for a couple days we have talked all day over the phone and weve gotten to know so much about each other usually i go for the back boys but hes a church boy and hes helping me so much and i havent even known him that long he knows things that i dont even think when i was dating somebody that they knew hes actually taken the time to get to know me and who i really am and ive taken the time to get to know him too but heres the catch he lives in illinois and i live in indiana and i dont know if u can reallly get a long distance relationship to work and i really wasnt going to let myself fall for him becasue of the distance and because everytime i get my hopes up about a guy it doesnt work out so i just dont know wat to do and hes planning on asking me out during valentimes day and i dont know wat to do somene please help me hes 17 and im 15

Long distance relationships are trouble en route. If you fall out early on, good. But if you DONT, then one day you realize you have to live together or else the constant separations will tear you apart. Usually you’re not ready to live together (like, marry), so you have to break up and it kills you anyway. I’d recommend AGAINST them.

Global warming skeptics – are these people part of a conspiracy, followers of Al Gore, or ignorant?

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

"The science of global warming is clear. We know enough to act now. We must act now."

James Rogers, CEO of Charlotte-based Duke Energy.

"I agree with you (Gore) that the debate over climate change is over."

Rep. Dennis Hastert, Republican, illinois

"Global warming is real, now, and it must be addressed."

Lee Scott, CEO, Wal-Mart

"Our nation has both an obligation and self-interest in facing head-on the serious environmental, economic and national security threat posed by global warming."

Senator John McCain, Republican, Arizona

"I’m trying to learn [about greenhouse gases and global warming]. The more I learn, the bigger believer I become."

Senator Lindsay Graham, Republican, South Carolina

“DuPont believes that action is warranted, not further debate."

Charles O. Holliday,CEO, DuPont

"These technologies will help us become better stewards of the environment – and they will help us to confront the serious challenge of global climate change."

President George Bush
I’m asking skeptics. If global warming is false, what is the reason for these people to believe in it?
jduck – did you read the quotes? They believe in global warming.
Yeah finally gets the question. But look at the people. Ignorant? Stupid? I don’t think so.
I still don’t have an answer. People just say global warming is false. If global warming is false, why would these people be saying it’s true?
George Bush is just following Al Gore’s lead when there’s major scientific evidence Gore’s science is wrong? And the CEOs of Dupont and Duke Power?

You gotta be kidding.

halluyah

some people are more concerned with Al Gores personal expenditure then with the real issue which is climate change that harms humanity

these are my thoughts and my message
for your attention

many people forget about desertification
desserts are like a fire they gobble up the edges with the heat and so grow.

forrests regulate the climate ,they absorb heat during the day and release it at night ,that is why desserts are freezing at night and cooking during the day

Forrests produce water ,and regulate the atmosphere we breathe (the absorb carbon )as well as protecting the earth from the sun
when forrest are being exchanged for ashalt, concrete and desserts
what is gonna keep this planet habitable for us

the carbon production is something else on top
and this seems to ocupy people the most
and the polution is something else again
all are factors in climate change

Global warming is a very complex collection of many effects

this text is limited to effects of people in the country, industrial effects on the environment and the internal combustion engine as well as the over all effects of cities ,is another story

climate change is caused principally by desertification ,and most desertification is caused by man
the thinner ozone layer helps to speed this up.and this is caused mainly by air polution ,also as a result of mans actions

there are natural cycles in the planets life
but a lot is influenced by mans existance ,and this is increasing with overpopulation, putting strains on Natural resources and increasing contaminations as well as destructions of essential componants the ensure living conditions for all life forms

in North Africa,India,Mexico ,millions of people are effected by land loss and desertification and some have died as a result

in china, thousands of what used to be farmers are running for their lives from the dust storms that have burried their towns and turned their lands into dessert,

,the Sahara is growing by 7 kilometers a year
and all of the desserts we know are a results of mans actions ,and they are increasing ,not getting less ,in the dinosaurs days ,there were no desserts.

collectively this planet is drying up because of bad farming practices like, over grazing and fertilizers,

each degree rise in temperature means 10%crop loss

and there is less and less water (because of deforestation),to irrigate this production ,
and there are less and less farmers to do it..
and there are 70 million more peole every year that have to eat and drink and wash

who are overpumping deep carbon aquifiers
who are plowing more and more unstable lands because they have lost so many million hectares to desertification ,
because of bad farming practises ,such as using fertilizers and heavy machinary or over grazing

RISING SEAS
The northpole is melting ,and we will know it without ice in our life times.
this does not affect the sea level because it is ice that is already in the water.but the melting ice from Green land and the south pole ,are another matter.

what were the following supreme court cases?

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Marbury v. madison
mcCulloch v maryland
gibbons v ogden
worcester v. georgia
scott v. sandford
munn v. illinois
wabash v. illinois
plessy v. ferguson.
standard oil v. united states
schenck v. us
Us v. Butler
Korematsu v. Us
Brown vs board of ed
Roe v. wade

I’ve got info on a lot of these cases, but I don’t even recognize a few of them… Here’s what I have:

Marbury v. Madison
Summary: Marbury and several others were appointed to government posts created by Congress in the last days of John Adams’s presidency, but these last-minute appointments were never fully finalized. The disgruntled appointees invoked an act of Congress and sued for their jobs in the Supreme Court.
Decision: He was entitled to his job because of an act of Congress. The justices also held, however, through Marshall’s forceful argument, that on the last issue the Constitution was "the fundamental and paramount law of the nation" and that "an act of the legislature repugnant to the constitution is void." This case establishes the Supreme Court’s power of judicial review.

McCulloch v. Maryland
Summary: Congress chartered The Second Bank of the United States, and Maryland passed legislation to impose taxes on the bank. James W. McCulloch, the cashier of the Baltimore branch of the bank, refused to pay the tax.
Decision: In a unanimous decision, the Court held that Congress had the power to incorporate the bank and that Maryland could not tax instruments of the national government employed in the execution of constitutional powers.

Gibbons v. Ogden
Summary: A New York state law gave two individuals the exclusive right to operate steamboats on waters within state jurisdiction. In this case a steamboat owner who did business between New York and New Jersey challenged the monopoly that New York had granted, which forced him to obtain a special operating permit from the state to navigate on its waters.
Decision: The Court found that New York’s licensing requirement for out-of-state operators was inconsistent with a congressional act regulating the coasting trade. The New York law was invalid by virtue of the Supremacy Clause. Regulation of navigation by steamboat operators and others for purposes of conducting interstate commerce was a power reserved to and exercised by the Congress. / Also gave meaning to the phrase "among the several states" in the Commerce Clause of Article I and applied it to states using the 10th Amendment.

Plessy v. Ferguson
Summary: The state of Louisiana enacted a law that required separate railway cars for blacks and whites. In 1892, Homer Adolph Plessy–who was seven-eighths Caucasian–took a seat in a "whites only" car of a Louisiana train. He refused to move to the car reserved for blacks and was arrested.
Question: Is Louisiana’s law mandating racial segregation on its trains an unconstitutional infringement on both the privileges and immunities and the equal protection clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment?
Decision: No, the state law is within constitutional boundaries. The majority, in an opinion authored by Justice Henry Billings Brown, upheld state-imposed racial segregation. The justices based their decision on the separate-but-equal doctrine, that separate facilities for blacks and whites satisfied the Fourteenth Amendment so long as they were equal. (The phrase, "separate but equal" was not part of the opinion.) Justice Brown conceded that the 14th amendment intended to establish absolute equality for the races before the law. But Brown noted that "in the nature of things it could not have been intended to abolish distinctions based upon color, or to enforce social, as distinguished from political equality, or a commingling of the two races unsatisfactory to either." In short, segregation does not in itself constitute unlawful discrimination.

Schenck v. United States
Case: Schenck mailed out notices urged people not to submit to the draft. He was then charged with conspiracy, violating the Espionage Act.
Question: Are Schenck’s actions (words, expression) protected by the free speech clause of the First Amendment?
Decision: Schenck is not protected in this situation. It established the “clear-and-present danger clause” to decide whether words were allowed.
Affected: The First Amendment’s provisions for free speech and free press.

Korematsu v. United States
Summary: During World War II, Presidential Executive Order 9066 and congressional statutes gave the military authority to exclude citizens of Japanese ancestry from areas deemed critical to national defense and potentially vulnerable to espionage. Korematsu remained in San Leandro, California and violated Civilian Exclusion Order No. 34 of the U.S. Army.
Question: Did the President and Congress go beyond their war powers by implementing exclusion and restricting the rights of Americans of Japanese descent?
Decision: The Court sided with the government and held that the need to protect against espionage outweighed Korematsu’s rights. Justice Black argued that compulsory exclusion, though constitutionally suspect, is justified during circumstances of "emergency and peril."

Brown v. Board of Education I
Summary: Black children were denied admission to public schools attended by white children under laws requiring or permitting segregation according to the races. The white and black schools approached equality in terms of buildings, curricula, qualifications, and teacher salaries.
Decision: The segregation of children in public schools solely on the basis of race deprives the minority children of the” equal protection of the law” guaranteed by the 14th Amendment. (Overturned Plessy v. Ferguson)

Brown v. Board of Education II
Summary: Established what means should be used to implement the principles announced in the case of Brown I.
Chief Justice Warren urged localities to act on the new principles promptly and to move toward full compliance with them "with all deliberate speed."

Roe v. Wade
Summary: Roe, a Texas resident, sought to terminate her pregnancy by abortion. Texas law prohibited abortions except to save the pregnant woman’s life. After granting certiorari, the Court heard arguments twice. The first time, Roe’s attorney — Sarah Weddington — could not locate the constitutional hook of her argument for Justice Potter Stewart. Her opponent — Jay Floyd — misfired from the start. Weddington sharpened her constitutional argument in the second round. Her new opponent — Robert Flowers — came under strong questioning from Justices Potter Stewart and Thurgood Marshall.
Question: Does the Constitution embrace a woman’s right to terminate her pregnancy by abortion?
Decision: The Court held that a woman’s right to an abortion fell within the right to privacy (recognized in Griswold v. Connecticut) protected by the Fourteenth Amendment. The decision gave a woman total autonomy over the pregnancy during the first trimester and defined different levels of state interest for the second and third trimesters. As a result, the laws of 46 states were affected by the Court’s ruling.

Hope this info helps you out. :-)

Traveling from California to Ilinois??

Monday, March 29th, 2010

My boyfriend and I are considering traveling(driving) to Scott AFB illinois from Barstow, Ca. We are going to visit my brother and his gamily then possibly going on to Michigan to see his dad. We plan on driving there or taking a train. Buses and Planes are out of the question. (My bf has issues with those) I was wondering if anyone could help us to estimate the costs of ow much it would be to get there and back and pay for food, lodging, and everything else. We will be staying at my brother’s house while we are there and we plan on staying at least a week.

Thank you very much!

Also if you have any ideas of places we need to see while on our way there or while we are there would be very helpful.

Well,
Gas in the St. Louis area today is about $3.30 per a gallon of regular. $3.84 for diesel.
And Scott is about 20 minutes from downtown St. Louis

Gives you an idea. You can figure your trip cost based on your vehicles mileage of course. And from St. Louis to Detroit (no idea what part of MI you have in mind)
It is about an 8-10 hour drive.

You can plan on $50 minimum a night for lodging. And if your doing fast food-then you have an idea on prices for that.

I would recommend buying a good road atlas. AAA has an excellent one. And they also have good travel guides for each state you can purchase.

Numerous interesting places to see in St. Louis. Ranging from the Arch to the Budweiser Brewery. Sure your brother will tell you about them.

Enjoy your trtip!
